Dr Vishen Ramkisson

Dr Vishen Ramkisson is Chairman and Founder of Araiya Group and has an impressive track record across multiple business and care-related ventures, from start-ups to acquired assets that have been optimised and successfully exited.

A highly respected senior medical leader, Vishen has extensive national experience across the NHS, having led complex digital and urgent care programmes at NHS Digital and NHS England since 2010. He has played a pivotal role in transforming primary and urgent care services across Hertfordshire and West Essex, and has clinically led and helped to develop key national services including the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS), the NHS e-Referral Service (eRS), and the data platform underpinning the Covid-19 vaccination service, for which he has received recognition and multiple awards.

Passionate about the role of technology in enhancing resident care, Vishen focuses on how digital solutions can support better decision-making by care providers. He is actively involved in initiatives to transform the quality of care home services in the UK, including staff recognition and quality improvement programmes, digitisation to achieve truly paper-free working, and the implementation of monitoring systems to safeguard residents as technology becomes more deeply embedded in society.

Alongside his leadership roles, Vishen remains true to his roots as a practising NHS GP. He completed his MBA in 2013 and, in 2017, was awarded Founding Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics. He has previously served as a Principal Clinical Consultant and member of the Clinical Advisory Board at BT Health. In 2024 he was appointed as a National Trustee of Sue Ryder.

Outside of work, Vishen enjoys spending time with his family. He is an avid follower of Formula 1 and Springbok rugby, and plays cricket for Lion Herts Cricket Club.

Notable Achievements.

COVID-19 National Vaccination Programme (2020-2021)

Vishen’s most celebrated achievement to date is his clinical leadership of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme. He was directly responsible for developing and gaining clinical safety approval for the technology and data platform supporting the rollout.

This work facilitated a historic milestone: the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine administered outside a clinical trial, administered to 90-year-old Margaret Keenan on December 2, 2020.

This moment of global medical significance was made possible by Vishen’s platform design and clinical governance work.

NHS e-Referral Service (eRS)

Vishen contributed to the development of the NHS e-Referral Service (eRS), an electronic web-based referral system enabling GPs to refer patients to specialist services with patient choice of provider and appointment time.

This system now facilitates referrals into consultant-led outpatient clinics, community services, diagnostic services, and GPwSI services across England.

Electronic Prescribing Service (EPS)

Vishen clinically led the development and national implementation of the EPS, which received national clinical safety approval on 29 March 2019 and launched nationally on 3 April 2019. The EPS transformed urgent care delivery by enabling electronic prescribing across NHS 111, out-of-hours GP services, and clinical assessment services across multiple regions.

The clinical benefits are substantial: in 2024, urgent care issued 1.6 million electronic prescriptions via EPS. The EPS eliminated paper prescriptions, enabling clinicians to send prescriptions electronically to patient-selected pharmacies, with confirmation texts to patients. Patients benefit from convenience; clinical teams gain efficiency; and the system frees time for higher-acuity patient care.

Himani is an accomplished clinician and medical leader, widely recognised for her impressive clinical acumen and commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care. She combines deep frontline experience with a strong track record in system leadership, education, and innovation in modern healthcare delivery.

For five years, Himani has served as Associate Medical Director across NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex, with a portfolio spanning frailty, NHS Pathways, individual funding requests, and clinical policy. In this role, she provided senior clinical leadership across complex care pathways, ensuring that governance, equity of access, and clinical quality were consistently upheld.

Alongside her leadership responsibilities, Himani has over 10 years’ experience as an NHS GP Partner in North Hertfordshire, where she has been central to the development of high-quality, patient-centred primary care services. She also brings more than 15 years’ ongoing experience as an NHS GP Appraiser and over 12 years as an accredited NHS Trainer, supporting and mentoring the next generation of GPs and fostering a culture of continuous professional development.

In parallel with her NHS career, Himani has successfully built and grown a thriving aesthetic medicine business. Over the past decade, she has been the owner and operator of Bright Skin Clinic. In 2026 she opened Dr H Aesthetics with further expansion planned. Her work in this space reflects the same values of safety, professionalism, and evidence-based practice that underpin her NHS roles.

Himai has particular interests in the application of technology to future models of care delivery, ensuring robust governance systems and quality monitoring are embedded across all care pathways, and maintaining the highest professional standards within an increasingly digital clinical ecosystem.

Outside of her professional life, Himani enjoys travelling, exploring food and culinary experiences, and watching tennis.
